Following is a listing of projects to be introduced during the first/third quarter of pottery.  Students will use a variety of different clays.

 First / Third Quarter Projects

1 Introductions First day of class: review of class syllabus, check out class tools, collaborative activity. Jan. 7 NA
2   Pinch Pot A pinch pot should be 1/4" thick. Attach two equal size pots together. Add a "Ugly Face". Jan. 13

3 Coil Vase Make a pot using rolled coils.  Your grade depends on the quality and size of the pot.  Pots should be light; coils blended on the interior of the pot and should be balanced. The bottoms of the pot should be smooth so it does not scratch furniture.

4 Clay Drape Make 4 plates. Experiment with different surface treatments. Mar. 16

5 Puzzle Bowl Using a slump or hump mold and coils form a bowl using unique designs. Feb. 19

6 Clay Texture Tile Make 4 4 x 4" slab tiles. Tell a story with your design and incorporate 3 or more levels and textures into your design. Feb. 11

Second / Fourth Quarter Projects

8 Stiff Side Slab Vase Using leather hard clay slabs, construct a vase 6" x 8" x 2" minimum. Sides should include incised designs. Mar. 10

9 2 Wheel bowls This bowl will be thrown on the wheel.  It should be the size of a salad or cereal bowl.  The walls must be even and the bottom needs to be trimmed with a foot ring. Mar. 2  
10 "Piggy Bank"  SEMESTER PROJECT: Make an a bank using 2 different building techniques. DUE May 18 This project is part of your semester test grade.
11  Luminary Vase Using the clay extruder, make a vase with a cut out design.  

 

12 Set of 4 plates Use different decorative glazing techniques to design 4 plates of equal size and shape.
